What Makes Us Standout

Competency Based System

TK Prep uses a Competency Based System (CBS) where students are instructed at their academic level and instruction is personalized for every child. CBS advances students to the next level of instruction when they are ready, allowing students to progress at their own speed. CBS promotes student achievement and helps every child meet their fullest potential! CBS is a better way to teach kids and is a proven method that gets results.

The orchestra for 4th and 5th graders is taught by our professionally trained concert cellist teacher Mrs. Trujillo (Newman-Roolf)

GOCO: Great Outdoors Colorado—The only elementary school in the district where the GOCO Grant program is located.  This program provides free, afterschool science courses three days a week.  These classes are available to the first 12 students to sign up.  Students work with scientists at Tennyson Knolls Preparatory School for two hours one day a week, after school and attend free, science-focused field trips once a month.

Boys and Girls Club:  They offer help with homework, sports/games, tech lab/STEM, cultural arts, college/career prep, field trips, reading programs, daily meals and snacks.  Open Monday-Friday from 3-8 pm and transportation from Tennyson Knolls to the Boys and Girls Club is provided!

Dotties Daycare provides to and from transportation to Tennyson Knolls Preparatory daily.

Reading Partners: Tennyson Knolls is partnering with Reading Partners Denver to bring one on one reading support.  Their one-on-one tutoring empowers students to succeed while simultaneously empowering volunteers to make a lasting difference in our community through individualized personal attention to each student in the program. This program takes place during the school day at Tennyson Knolls Preparatory School.

Hip Hop, Karate, Roller Skating, and jump rope for heart are all included within our PE courses.  In addition, our Music, Visual Arts, and PE teachers all work together to offer a wonderful Arts & PE Night each year. This night is fun for the whole family with many activities to participate in and an art walk display of our student work.

Title I Math and Reading Nights:  We organize a math night each year where students can learn to play math games with their family members.  Families leave with all the materials to continue working on games at home.  This event will continue to change to meet the needs of our families. We provide a light meal and refreshments for both reading and math nights.  Reading night is a great deal of fun each year. Families will learn skills for supporting their students in reading growth.  All students leave with at least one book to grow their home library.
